I like editing but I am wondering if anyone know how to edit the sound from 2-channel but keep the background sound. eg I want to change the spoken language from english to japanese. I know it can be done on 5.1 but just wondering if it can be done for 2-channel.

Sounds like a task for a karaoke machine. Seriously. Removing vocals from music is what they do.

You can try this yourself if you have the hardware or software. Generally, vocals are recorded in mono (equal signal in both channels), while music has much more 'stereo' content (content that is not equal in both channels). If you play back the two channels out of phase with respoect to one another, you'll be able to cancel out a lot of the vocal content while leaving enough of the music content in tact to be 'passable'.
