I bought a Elite Kuro 110FD a couple of years ago. Spending 5k at the time i thought i maybe somewhat future proofing my investment for a at least 5 years. But is seems as though pioneer have made 2 new generations of Kuro since and new LED technology is now claiming to be just as good if not better. Now i see the 110FD for sale for as little as $1300 brand new online.

My question: How does the 110FD compare to what is out there now ? - or did i just buy at the wrong time and waste a load of money?

I would rate it as still one of the better sets even compared to the newer sets available now. Enjoy it and don't look back.

The 110FD is only 1 generation from the latest, 111FD is the closest equivalent current generation. 110FD is still as good as (if not better than) the best plasma from Samsung/Panasonics/LG/...

Cheers and enjoy!

Thanks for the reassurance guys. When i saw that i could get 3 110FD now for the price i paid 15 months ago i was a little disappointed because i had waited so long to buy a flat panel worth spending the money on.

The 110Fd will still beat the pants off of the LED LCD's out there .

The LED LCD's incorporate things motion enhansers, LEd backlighting, etc. in order to try to achieve what a plasma can do naturally.

Keep your 110fd.

Since you are used to the motion, mixed contrast, viewing angles, and the more 3d look of the Kuro, switching to an LED LCD would leave a bad taste in your mouth most likely and the problems of the LCD would be amplified greatly.

don't feel bad... you aren't alone...
when i look at what i paid for my 150fd (and my sc-05, for that matter) vs. what the 151fd (and 05's) went for at closeout, it can cause a bit of pain...

however, don't be "disappointed"... you've enjoyed it for 15 months... it was worth it, no?

Oh yeh its definitley worth it
... every time i watch the TV i love the picture and i don't have 1 bad thing to say about any feature on the TV, which is why i wonder why a new generation Kuro came out so soon after this one. Could pioneer really have improved it that much or was it just marketing spin.

Anyway, on to another subject i'm looking to move my Wii on to another flat panel. I'm not to fond of the idea of someone hurling a Wii remote at my Kuro + we've wanted a second TV in the house for a while now. No way can i spend what i did on the Kuro but I wanted to get something good for both a second TV for HD cable, the odd movie when not watching it on the Kuro and of course mainly for the Wii. Cannot decide between LCD or Plasma. Plasma just seems like the better technology that LCD is always trying to live up to but having a Pioneer Plasma as my main TV, some part of me wants to try an LCD just for the sake of it but the safe side of me wants stick with a plasma maybe a 42 entry level 1080p Panny or Samsung i am seeing a lot of stuff now around the 800 price range.

Any advice ? - Maybe i should create a seperate thread for this.

Thanks for listening and advising as always.

Damn right ccotenj. All too-often people "throw away" the time where whatever they owned was "the" thing. And that's just crazy, like cc said, you've got 15 months out of it already...and who knows how many more?

In the case of the Pio, you're even further ahead than most, as it STILL is one of the best panels around, whereas many other techs/products are much more quickly eclipsed.

I have a Kuro and feel very similarly. I'm certain right now it's STILL at the top, and will prolly enjoy another year in a very similar position.

Sure, it will of course be surpassed eventually, but I'll never throw away those 2 years, and I'll prolly just take another year or two out of it before moving on to the latest and greatest.

My $.02

So you can afford someone throwing a remote into a $1500 TV, but not a $5000, TV?

Have yet to hear of a Wii controller strap breaking...just have people use it or they don't play, simple as that.

As far as the new TV goes, the new Panny's are the best panels out there right now, IMO. Dollar for dollar they're tough to beat.

good luck,

Still a nice tv and worth keeping.

Not worth upgrading within an already dead Kuro series.

Oh i certainly will not be throwing or shelving the Kuro. When i bought it i planned on having it as my main set for at least 10 yrs which is why i spent the money. It's good to hear the set has not been totally eclipsed if at all. As a consumer i would just feel cheated if i spent that much money on technology to be dated within a year. I'm not one of those folks who frequently upgrades so i what i get i expect it to have longevity.

I was looking at the new panosonics and p42s1 with the neo pdp panel seems like a good choice. BB has the p42u1 which seems to be a stripped down version no neo pdp. If i can get a refund on the gift card at BB that my wife got me i'll probably buy one from a site sponsor as their price is proabably better than BB's.

You are right not to believe ... with all the requests i got for links for that pricing i thought i may have mis-read something. I went back on amazon and typed 110fd the first result was for a pioneer 5010 fd. I must have jumped the gun and not read the full product description, after i typed in the search , saw the pioneer come up, the price and 10fd in the title I jumped right on here.

Apologies for the false alarm.

I dont think any current sets besides pioneer are better then his 2007 pro-110fd

if you plan on getting a second set get a current pioneer or pioneer elite and keep both until oled is standard or something better in that radar.
