Pretty much. The major differences are the ISF presets and the much more extensive picture controls. In fact, with the Elite box, you can pretty much calibrate the display yourself just using the user controls if you have the right gear and know what your doing.
Alrighty, thank you mucho dicey....

Still pondering if I should go with the 1130 or the 5060.....
Not the same from what I have heard.
...uh oh, they are not?

Hey, don't quote me. My Pioneer facts aren't the best ;)
:D

thank you anyway, let's see if some Pio experts will chime in :)
anyone else on this?

:)
As far as I know (from research) the Elite and Non-Elite are the same exact tv inside.

The Elite adds 1 more year of warranty, ISF Mode (Night & Day mode), More user picture adjustment controls (specific color adjustment, extra color temp choices), gold connectors and I think slightly better speakers.

There might be a couple other additions, but as far as the scaler/processor, etc...they are the same...from what I know.
Thank you TheSkeptiks....

appreciated.

I'll second that ;)

Just kidding, Elemental, all in fun. Mostly. :)
I've heard that if you open up the two media boxes, the Elite looks very different, and has a different serial number. However, to me, that could just be from the different picture mode options and all that.

I've always understood that the 60 series and Elite models had the same panel and basically same PQ, but that one can tweak the Elite more, which gives the possibility of obtaining a better picture than with the 60. So theoretically the Elite can provide a better picture. I simply have no expert basis to say definitively whether the scaler and all that is shared as well. With only a $500 MSRP price difference, I'd bet it's shared.
I asked the same question to Pioneer tech support as I was debating whether to buy the 5060 or 1130. I was told that the video processor on the 1130 is different from the 5060 and produces better SD picture quality, but HD picture quality is the same. I am not sure that isn't just marketing BS but I ended up getting the 1130 and IMO it has some of the best SD I have seen from a plasma.

What I really like about the 1130 is the extra video adjustments was has allowed me to easily get another $500 in PQ improvements. For example the "pure mode" produces very accurate colors and the DRE adjustments allowed me to get even better black level and black detail not possible on an 5060.
Thank you for clearing that up mhfnet!

I'm really not concerned at this time about SD as this panel will be used only for watching DVDs! I don`t like SD TV anyway....

The only thing that is holding me back is that I'll have to add the installation, cables, HD-DVD player and that will sums up to a hefty price tag!

Well, in a way, DVD is kind of like SD. They're the same resolution, in most cases. Of course, most well-transferred DVDs look a ton better than SD, since they're not as compressed. So you should be very pleased with the Elite, or the Standard Pioneer.

If you are looking for DVD PQ only, then you may want to look at some of the ED Panasonics and save some money.

The Strength of the Pioneer is HD. DVD quality will be directly proportional to the amount of research and money you put into a high quality DVD player. The pioneer can look just as good as any panasonic, but what you are really paying for with pioneer is superior HD performance. If you wont be using that, why buy it?

Pioneer is in my opinion the best all around set for all signals: SD, DVD, HD. Panasonic is just as good with DVD, but imo lacking in SD and HD.

RHarkness has done a lot of posting and comparisons, and he is a dvd watcher first and foremost, so you would do well to search for some of his posts/threads and see what he says. He still prefers panasonic to pioneer for his viewing habits. I think its fair to inform you of all your options knowing you will be DVD PQ only.

But if HD-DVD or BluRay is what you're after, then you wont find a better picture than the pioneer for the same money.

Well, DvD is higher. NTSC broadcasts can be half of that. I wouldn't lump DvD in with SD. :D
I too heard of various differences between to two. As an owner of an 1130, I will say it reproduces SD better than any other display I have seen. The HD is amazing but much of what you still watch is SD. Both are supposed to upconvert 480i to 768P. I also prefer the exterior blk look of the Elite. You are also supposed to have higher quality standards with the Elite which is supposed to lead to less dead or stuck pixels(I have none)... again this is all subject for debate.

For me, I rather spend a few $$$ more and never look back.
