emotiva VS outlaw

2132 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  jprod
I currently have a denon 3805 and was looking to use it as a preamp. I am looking at the outlaw 7125 vs the emotiva isp-1. I have a 7.1 setup with def techs. Anybody have experience with these amps ?

Also, am I better off doing this and upgrading my preamp later or should I get one of the pionner elites (92) or marantz 7002 ?

I have a 720p projector, hddvr from directtv a ps3 that I use as a blu ray player, an xbox 360 premium, and a denon dvd2900. I will switch to HDMI soon.

Thanks

I have the Emotiva IPS-1, chose it due to the incredible price and Emotiva's generous return policy. I've been happy with it since day one.

Also, consider either outlaw or Emotiva's preamps as opposed to getting an AVR just to use as a pre/pro. Both are due to have HDMI equiped models out this year, and I know that if you buy an Emotiva preamp from them, when the next generation of preamps come out, they'll give you 40% off for being a returning customer. This only applies to their preamps.

Yeah I've got a one year old Onkyo 604, but I've got the upgrade bug and currently waiting for Emotiva to come out with these rumored new lines so I can look them over. I'd like to move to a pre/pro setup but I want to make sure Emotiva will support the newer uncomplessed/lossless high def audio formats up to 7.1.

One thing about Emotiva...I don't think I've ever seen a cross word about this company. Outlaw looks like a solid company as well and I fully intend to keep them in mind before I buy but I really like the look of the Emotiva equipment and their price points seem rather reasonable for someone such as my self that wants to step up but can't afford to take a huge over-step.

I emailed Emotiva about the advanced codecs, and they said that all their new preamps, including their budget $699 model coming out in a few months, will support all new HDMI high def audio formats. They realize this is a huge selling point right now.
I had the opportunity to put my friend's IPS in my system and it sounded great. My system is currently 2.1, the preamp has a "Theater Bypass" mode which I plan to use to incorporate surround and I'll probably order a LMC 2 once they come out. I was impressed with the IPS so I think the LMC 2 will be a great unit. I'm still undecided on power, I have my current amp which will stay in place and a couple of B&K 2140 stereo amps but it would be nice to have a matching Emo amp. I'm 75% music and 25% movies so I think the Emo gear is a perfect fit for me. Based on my brief experience I think their gear has an excellent price to performance ratio.
What swayed me to Emotiva was a review I saw done where they compared the Sunfire pre/pro to the emotiva and the sherbourn. I forget the link, but take a look at emotivalounge.com, as I believe it's there somewhere. I was skeptical, but ended up being very surprised by how similar the Emotiva was to the higher end companies, and the reviews seem to go along with it.
Thanks for al the input, but for an easier all in one solution (I also wanted 2 hdmi out for my setup) I went with Marantz 7002.

Hope I made the right decsision (I could also use the Marantz as a pre/pro down the road with an emotiva amp)
