OK....I'm getting bits and pieces of info about the av123 EMOTIVA deal.....pre-pro + 6 channel 125W amp for something in the neighborhood of $1,200.

I've been trying to get into the av123 site, but it must be down.

Is there anyone out there that knows for certain what the specs and the deal is?

Yeah the site has been down most of the morning. The deal you're talking about is the Emotiva Lite. I know the pre\\pro has a Cirrus processor. The amp is 125 x 5 + 60 x 2(or 125 x1), all Channels driven. I can't recall the rest, but I couldn't believe the Price! Release date is Mar/05. Sorry I couldn't recall more info.

Graphicguy,...

Wow! I can only tell you what I have discussed with the guys over there a while back when the units were on a pre-order list.

The processor was going to be around $3000.00, and the 200 watt X 7 amp, was going to be around $2000.00

They were offering a couple deals to previous customers that had purchased speakers in the past of the pair, for a great intro price of something like $3900.00

These numbers are from my less than perfect memory.

Yeah, I couldn't believe the Emotiva UL prices when AV123 annouced it especially when purchased with speakers. I already have Emotiva on order so I will pass on the Emotiva UL.

grcrystyk,

The pieces you are talking about are the "regular" emo's. The specs the original poster was referring to is the newly announced "Emo Lite" pieces, which are completely different, as far as I can tell. Not a lot of info released yet as far as back panel drwgs, etc; but some basic stuff from MLS as a sort of "advance notice".

GRCRYSTYK,

I think you're getting the 2 pkgs mixed-up. There's the Emotiva DMC-1(pre/pro w/Motorola processor) & MPS1(amp 200x7, w/removable amp modules) which is priced $3999 & $1999. Pkg deal is apprx $4K.

Then there's the 'New' Emotiva Lite pre/pro(Cirrus processor) & amp(125 x 5 + 60 x 2 (or 125 x1)), which the pkg deal is something like $1200.

Emotiva Ultra Lite will compete with entry level seperates like Outlaw, Rotel 1068, S/N 965, Integra 9.4, etc. Cirrus based, as mentioned. My guess is not upgradable, no HDMI. But for $1200 for the pair it kinda blows the competition away.

No info released on the pre feature set yet, It's vaporware for now with promises of March 05. The killer deal (first 100 pre sales) is this combo with Rocket speaker packages, which effectively bring the EMO UL pair down to $500 when purchased with a Rocket Speaker package. They will aslo loan out a Denon AVR to you until the EMO UL ships. Nice little market trick to get sales now.

Thanks guys,..I was unaware there was anything new coming. Shoot, I wasn't sure, the "Twins" were readily available yet. I lost track after a while.

I'm sure they are sweet machines. Sure would like to hear a set, but having not purchased speakers from AV123, I think they are a bit out of touch for me anyway.

Should be interesting to see how the Ultra Light works out.

From the few things I had read, I thought that the EMO Ultra Lite's shipment was imminent. I'm on the lookout for an A/V piece for my 2nd HT room. This won't bide with my time frame. By March of next year, I expect to see some other compelling AVRs and pre-pro +amp deals that will be similar...especially since there will be no i-link, DVI, HDMI or auto EQ on these pieces, correct?

I'm very happy with my speakers, so the combo Rocket deal means that just buying the electronics alone won't be the "bargain" I had hoped for.

I thought I had found something that sounded too good to be true. As is usually the case, it is.

Yes, vaporware at the moment, but AV123 generally ships the products they announce. What I don't get is where can you touch entry level separates for $1200.00 retail? That's priced at the cost of a mid level receiver. The only other units I can think of are the Outlaw 950/7100 combo for $500.00 more. Which would you rather have? Like most of the AV123 gear, it promises performance beyond it's price range by a fair margin, and the stunning looks of the Emotiva line. March is a long way away, and nothing ever ships on time, but I'm not in that big of a hurry, so I will pre-order a set. The offering price is silly.

A few things that I absorbed regarding this new combo before their site went down was:

- amp can be configured as a 7-channel amp, if the 6th channel is split - permitting 60 watts to be delivered to channels 6 and 7.

- The pre/pro also has a small, built-in amp to drive a pair of speakers in a 2nd zone. 25 watts are sent to each of these two channels.

For $1,200, this combo looks pretty promising. :)

I poked around their site on Friday, but was not able to find any information on the UL pre/pro, other than pricing. All I found on the forums was a bunch of gushing praise for a non-existant, ill-defined future product. Although I like av123, and I am still enjoying the speakers I bought from them a few years back, I'm not ready to show any kind of enthusiasm until I hear more about these units.

Well I still don't understand why pre/pros cost so darned much these days. Why can't I get a super cheap one, when I can buy a $500 reciever with essentially everything I need? Isn't a pre/pro just a reciever without any amplifiers in it? What is so magical about a pre-amp and processor that it has to cost over a thousand bucks for an "entry level" model?

Sounds like Emo really got it right with these products coming out-- I can't wait to get more details about them!

Obviously you didn't look very hard. There's quite a bit of information about the amp and the pre/pro.

Mike...I'm with you on this. While I don't have any products from AV123, I understand they have a decent reputation. Nobody has heard the equpiment and the info about the gear that someone can get or guess at, isn't well-defined. Yet, there seems to be a bit of "infomercial" type marketing going on with it...."it's great, it's stupendous...how can we offer such a deal......have your credit cards ready...operators are standing by"......

From what I can gather, it won't have an operable firewire, nor any sort of autoEQ. I'll assume it's being made in China from one of the big electronics plants there.

The amp seems to be on par with the mid-range AVRs currently on the market and the pre-pro doesn't compete with the feature set mid-range AVRs are offering.

Near the same price range with similar power.....

-Denon 3805...$1,000 street price

-Sherwood R865 or R965 (spend a little more and get their P965 + Crown pro amps with much more power) with auto setup..$800-$2,000

-upcoming Marantz SR8500 with auto set-up and DVI/HDMI switching..street price around $1,200-$1,400

-Elite 56 TXi with functional i-link & MCACC...$1,100 street price

or.......

Get a Yammy or Pioneer $500 AVR as a pre-pro and add 3 two channel Crown amps for $750 and have a huge "bang for the buck" electronics set (both with auto set-up) that would be tremendously powerful and feature rich at about the same price.

I don't think the intent is to make the announcement of this product sound like an infomercial. I just think it's the result of their very excited CEO promoting a product that appears to be quite promising. Now, we just have to wait until March to see what becomes reality.

Sure, as separates, it might be lacking on a few features that a good mid-level receiver could have more options than it. However, for the money, it puts separates into the reach of many who could not afford them before. But, I don't understand what stops people from using a good receiver with lots of features as their pre/pro. I guess they figure that they don't have real separates when using the receiver in this fashion.

But, the list is endless on what someone could buy for $1,200 - and have a boatload of features and gobs of power.

While the product specs are not clearly defined (yet) and no one has heard them they should be a decent combo. Sure, some people are going overboard assuming they will be the best thing around and blow everything out of the water. I would hope that those people are in the minority and the rest of the 'sane' :) people will actually compare them to other equipment and decide if they are better than the $1000-$1500 receivers on the market.

I have preordered them so I can A/B compare them to the $1000 MSRP receivers and my current setup. If they aren't any better I will send them back. If they perform at the Rotel entry level separates level they will be a steal at their price.

Check out the photos that were added this morning. This doesn't look like a Denon amp to me...

Thanks for your reply...

The data posted was "preliminary" and stated as such... We offered the package explaining to everyone where we stood with delivery times etc. We also offered a name brand, really nice AVR, as a loaner until the EMO Ultra Lite Stack ships...

There is some information on the thread, but you'll note we did not post this information here, or on any other sites... :)

The EMOTIVA product group has been well received by our early adopters, and the two magazines that have it for review now... We are very confident in the entire line --- including this new UL Stack...

More information will be forthcoming, and the "deal" we offered with this new line was exceptional... Our customer base knows this and responded nicely...

I will not be posting any further data here about these products... but if you'd like, you can re-visit our forum for more data...

Wishing you all the very best...

Mark....thanks for the update. As I mentioned, although I've never used any of your products, I've heard nothing but good things about your company.

I certainly appreciate you "chiming in" here. I also understand that you have your own site to talk about your products.

Truth told, AVS seems to be the one place where everything HT related is talked about with minimal interference by our kind hosts. That's why the site has so many participants.

I'll take a look over at your site to see if I can "glean" any more information. But, as it stands, they only thing I've been able to see is the "hype" without much substance.
