Why does it seems people use SO much more bracing for home theater enclosures than in car audio? I usually double baffle only if my speakers weigh more than 20 lbs. Here I see enclosures 1.5" thick all around AND with bracing on the inside for a single sealed 10" or 12". What gives? You can't tell me that a properly built box .75" all around with no bracing is going to flex with only a 10" driver.

That's a very good question. Most people feel wood is cheap (and it is, compared to most woofers and amplifiers), so why not just go for complete overkill, or at least 'better safe than sorry'. I really see no need for 1.5" thick walls, other than for purposes of flush mounting a thick frame woofer in the baffle.
