well if it can play on both hd-dvd players and blue ray players without having to buy new players then i think also this will end the war. cause neither company is gonna win lol but i dunno i doubt its that eazy
I might be an idiot... but was that article implying that both Blu Ray and HDDVD movies would be "on the same disc" (honestly, isn't that impossible) or just that a company has produced DVD's with insane amounts of layers and as such they have the space to store HD movies? If so, isn't this really old news? You'd still need to manufacture specialized players able to play these discs at HD resolutions.

It's not going anywhere.

Re-Re-Re-Re-Re-post

it had solved a technical production problem that makes it possible to produce a cheap multiple-layer DVD disk containing one film in different, competing formats.

By putting the same film on a single disk in the two competing formats, movie studios can save money and consumers do not have to worry if they are buying the right disk for their player.

Nope, both formats on a single disc. Looks like new news to me!

They (HDDVD and Blu Ray) both store their information at different distances from the surface of the discs. The premise of the article is that while Blu Ray and HDDVD are difficult and/or costly to manufacture this company has somehow magically found an easy way to manufacture a disc that is both? Makes perfect sense to me.
