I recently purchased the ESW-V8 for my Onkyo receiver but I'm not sure about some of the settings on the sub. I understand the sub has it's on amp so it can be used as an active sub or I can use it as a passive sub (bypass). Passive, meaning my receivers amp will do the work.

However, I don't know which setting will be better. How can I tell if my receiver will do a better job than the sub's amp? What specification should I look for in my receiver's manual?

Secondly, Can someone help me figure out what settings to use for the low pass filter and phase on the back of the sub?

Thanks in advance.

This IS an active sub. It does not have an amp bypass. You are confusing the Low Pass Filter mode switch (active/bypass) for an amp bypass.

Connect the sub out on your receiver to the Line In/Sub In on the sub with an RCA cable.

On your receiver, set your speakers to small and sub to on/yes. Set the crossover on the receiver to 80Hz and set the low pass filter mode to bypass on the sub.

Set the phase to 0 and the volume to about the 10:00 position.

Now you're ready to start listening. Some adjustments will have to be made and you should run the Audyssey setup on the receiver to get a better configuration.

Thanks for the clarification and information. I've done all the above but I'll wait until tomorrow to test out the sound quality.

One more question. There's another knob on the back for the sub for Low-Pass Filter and it goes from 40Hz to 120Hz. What should I set that to?

Thanks you

With the Low Pass Filter Mode switch set to Bypass, it doesn't matter. That is the knob it bypasses.
