I found a local deal from a lady who is selling a open box, but new energy take classic 5.1 for $275. Is this a good deal? How would I know if these are legit? Are there stories of people buying bootleg or fake speakers? This will be my first speaker purchase as you can tell.

If you have a smaller listening area, these will work fine for you. The high gloss black is nice looking, but a dust magnet.

If they are legit, then those are some nice speakers. Is she selling a sub with those speakers or is it just the 5 small Energy Take's? Because you can find the Take Five package without the sub on Newegg for $234 shipped.

the speakers are great but i wouldnt pay that much. They go on pretty good sales at newegg all the time. I got 2 sets about 3 months ago one for 150 and one for 130 free ship. Does not include sub, i picked up the pa-120 for 198 shipped.

I think you should ask these same questions on the energy thread. I think you also need to find out the subwoofer model and let people know which one it is to see if is big enough to work for your room. But I could see how that may be hard to find. But definitely go to the energy thread...they probably know which sub it is anyways. (you may be able to buy that sub new for like $100 or something...I don't know though, but they will) (and to give you an idea...within the past month I ordered the Take Classics from newegg for $150 and the F12 subwoofer for $183)

Ask to see the original receipt when you go to look at them. Before you go make sure you have the dimensions of the Takes from their web site. Bootlegging speakers is uncommon.
