my local costco has that for 100 less in Plano TX, it's not on their website and it's the only one I go to...but their return policy is awesome so it might be worth the cost of membership...

Is this company reputable? I imagine this would make a big difference? Anyone have this setup? I am a relative newbie and all ears for what you all have to say.

I like Bob and Ron's. In fact I was just walking through the showroom this past weekend (I just walk around and fantasize about spending tens of thousands of dollars). I have no insight on the speakers (I'm assuming you do), but the store has a very good reputation.

However, it sounds like it might be worth checking your local Costco on the off chance they carry this set-up too.

somehow I doubt they'll have it up here in AK. SO you think this will be a substantial improvement over the Energy Classic system? I'll have to pay shipping to return that, plus likely shipping to get this package. I will check the Local Costco. Is it worth it regarding the sound quality?

yes, overall, you'll be much more impressed with the sound coming from a full-sized system. The Take Classic speakers are tiny (you can hold each in the palm of your hand) whereas those Energy towers would probably not fit into the trunk of some cars.

So it really depends on the aesthetic you are going for, and also the size of the room you are putting them in.

yes, they are reputable and an authorized Energy dealer. I bought a s10.3 subwoofer from them a few months ago and its excellent.

it's not so much better/worse, it's different. The Take Classic setup is a 5.1 setup with tiny satellites + a subwoofer. The C-series are full-sized speakers. In absolute sound quality, a system anchored by big towers like the C-500's will sound better, much more bass, more ouput, etc..... but if the goal is to fit small speakers in with maximum sound quality to keep the wife happy, then the Take Classic is better.

No wife - just me
Space is of course a bit of an issue living in an apt, but not the be all end all. For a reasonable increase in sound quality I think it would be worth the subtle difference in asthetics. They seem to be fairly nice looking and they would just essentially be the "ends" of my AV stand anyway so just an extra 18 inches total width (or there abouts).

Anyone happen to upgrade from the smaller Energy speakers like the Classic to these care to share their experience? Any issues with the C-500's up front and significantly smaller units in the rear? The Pio 1018 is up to the task, correct?

Check out the Energy owners thread, lots of info. The Take Classic will have beautiful, balanced sound, but they just can't match the output of large towers like the C-500 or even a full-size bookshelf.

If you can fit the towers up front, go for it. You could downsize the towers a bit by going with C-300's ($250 shipped for a pair from wwstereo), then C-50's for surrounds ($99 shipped) and a C-C50 center ($79 shipped). That system would be capable of a lot more output than the Take Classic.

Since you already have the Take Classic, may as well see how you like it and enjoy it for a bit, and then decide to upgrade if you aren't satsified.

Classic system comes in tomorrow. I am wondering if for an additional 100$ if it is even worth opening it, or if I should just return it. A total upgrade down the road would cost A LOT more than the 1-200$ I'd have to lay out now (and hopefully not have to upgrade anything in the future. I will be moving into a bigger place next fall.

That other breakdown with the C-300's sounds good except it leaves me with only $150 for a sub. Plus, for the size of the 300's I'd proabaly need stands and the C-500's already are "on" their own stands.

I appreciate eveyones thought's here.

the 300's don't need stands, they are towers and only 2 inches shorter than the 500's.

the guys at wwstereo are reputed to be extremely nice and very helpful, I bet if you called them and asked to substitute the 300's for 500's in that setup to save a little money they would do it.

C-300's are floorstanding speakers, you don't need a stand.

C-50 is a small bookshelf, but if you had room for the take 5 satellites, the C-50 isn't a whole lot bigger.

And you can get a 10" sub for $160 shipped
