I am looking to build a bookshelf 5.1 home theater system for a finished basement that I have not even finished yet. So I have a solid year to shop for this system. I am looking to spend about $500ish for the five main speakers. I will be wall mounting the speakers.

I have mainly been looking at Infinity Primus Series, they were recently on sale for (163 $60/each, 153 $50/each, 143 $40/each), which are great prices for my budget. I was also considering Pionner speakerrs and the Energy CB series.

But today I saw a sale on Energy RC-10s for $200/pair. I am very tempted but I am worried about finding and paying for a matching center. I know the RC-LCR can be expensive and I heard the RC-Mini Center could match but that seems every harder to find.

Any thoughts?

The RC-10 and LCR are currently on sale at Fry's. So you don't have to worry about finding the LCR. It's available now.

I suggest that you buy 3 pairs of the Dayton Audio B652 speakers, and use five of them and have one left over.

That will cost you a grand total of $120...lol!!

The price of these speakers is some sort of major craziness.

I bought a pair just to see if the Stereophile article on them could be correct, and ended up replacing some $200 Boston speakers with them for my 60" TV in the family room; for $40!

You won't believe how good they are until you hear them. I very much doubt if the Energy or Infinity speakers sound as good.

They have integral wall-mount slots.

The JBL ES150 subwoofer is $160 at Amazon; it might be a good choice.

The RC-10's and the RC-LCR are amazing speakers and since they are in your budget GO FOR THEM!!! They are far superior compared to the Infinity Primus speakers and on a different solar system of superiority when compared to the Dayton's (ignore that suggestion).

Agreed, especially at that price! I believe this is lower than when they were on clearance at Vanns before they shut down. Also that LCR is hard to find so buy all three now.

In general, it's a mistake to buy in advance. Your needs and tastes change.

Also, I'll note that the RC-10s were cheap (not this cheap, but cheap) for a long time at Vanns. And - AMAZINGLY - people still bought speakers other than the RC-10s. I know it's shocking, but true, that not everyone buying speakers bought those speakers.

I'm kidding, of course, but the point is - they're the best speakers now (or a few days ago) at that price, and for that need. Different price point, different need, different time - things change.

Deal ends on Thursday 2/13. They may not have any stock left online but speakers are still available in stores.

Just came from my local Fry's and they had several pairs in stock. Even had them check other NoCal stores and some locations had up to 9 pairs of RC-10's. So if somebody lives near a Fry's they can probably still find the RC speakers. You just can't order them thru the website right now.
