Enhanced Movies

238 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Lou_F
Does anyone know what it means when a DVD says "Enhanced for 16:9 TV's"? I would assume they were formatted for a 16:9 TV.

I have a number of these and when I play them on my HDTV, they look like any other letterbox movie.

Thanks.

Lou:

I believe that "enhanced for 16:9 (or widesreen) TVs" means that the film is anamorphic.
Anamorphic Enhancement is not the same as aspect ratio. Many movies are in the 2:35.1 ratio, which is wider than 16X9, so they will still have black bars. There used to be a sticky about this, but Josh's link will fill you in.
Thanks, The link explains it well.
