My Epson Home Cinema 400 has been alternating, quite rapidly, between bright and dim.

I've tried reseting all settings to default.

There are 1071 hours on the bulb, which gets pretty much daily use.

Is this the average life span of a projector bulb?

Any thoughts, advice very much appreciated!

Flickering lamps are usually caused by the arc jumping between two spots on the lamps electrodes. If you're running in low lamp ( theatre black 1/2 ), try running it in one of the high lamp modes ( livingroom / natural / dynamic ) for a few hours. If you normally run in high lamp, do the opposite.

Most projectors I've had ( except for my Epson 400 )developed a bit of flicker in mid-lamp-life. The above has always worked for me.

Just an update for anyone having this problem. JRWhite's solution fixed the problem. Like he said, run it on a low setting (or high if u normally run low) for a couple hours (I did about 6-7hrs to be safe). Bulb is working better then ever!!!! Thanks again JRWhite!
