Epson 6050 vs JVC NX5 vs BenQ vs ???

Hello,

I am trying to make the best buying decision and am considering the NX5 and the 6050. Does BenQ have a compelling product to compare? We dont really do any gaming and only watch 4k HDR movies and occasional YouTube content.

I am in a 100% light controlled, black painted room with a 135 inch screen (Probably the Stewart Neve material or the StudioTek G4) if that helps.

Any recommendations or things to considered would be much appreciated!

The HT9060 comes to mind. However I'd suggest looking at the LG AU/HU810 which is a bit of a bargain for Canadians right now (checkout Visions.ca).

I hadn't been considering LG as an option. thanks for the suggestion I'll start looking into how it compares to the NX5 - cheers
The JVC is going to have much better blacks than the Epson.

Yeah, thats the general concuss I see around the web. What about the NX5 compared to the LG AU810PB?

For that room and for 4K HDR movies, only projectors I would look at are the JVC and Sony projectors. If those are above your budget, then I would look at the Epson 6050. I would never install an E-shift DLP in a complete blacked out room.

thanks for the reply - why would you never install an eshift alp in a complete blacked room? sorry I am new to the projector world, this one will be my first.

The black levels of any of the shifting DLPs aren't going to compete with JVC/Sony or even the Epson 5050/6050. The raised black levels are going to be much more noticeable in a completely blacked-out room. I personally would go with the JVC NX5 or NX7 due to its superior black levels and dynamic tone mapping. The LG is good but I consider it more of a great living room/media room projector as opposed to a dedicated theater projector.

Because a completely blacked out room will really make the poor contrast (1,000:1 to 2,000:1) of the shifting DLP's stand out like a sore thumb.

NX5/RS1000 would be my pick, but I did name off all of the potential contenders, I think people should consider, when talking blacked out rooms.

thanks for the input - I think I may move twoards the nx5.

When it comes to screens, I am considering an elunevision reference 4k or a Stewart Cima Neve and potentially a Screen Innovations (either Pure or Unity). The Grandview screen that I saw was very disappointing. Any recommendations for me there?

Cima Neve.
should I consider the acoustically transparent? Just to keep my options open? I’m running towers right now (monitor audio silver 500 and center is the silver 350) but often wonder about improved soundstage and vocals if the speakers were aligned behind the screen…

What size screen and aspect ratio?

135 inch and 16:9

If you are going AT, I would go with ST130 microperf, not Cima Neve perf. The gain would help.
