This may be a redundant thread but... I'm about to buy my very first projector and I want to make sure I buy it for the right reasons. :)

So, are you happy with your machines? Are there annoyances? Any problems in operation?

Kimmo,

I don't know if this thread is intended for someone like me. In case it is, the answer is yes to the first question and no to the other two.

A resounding YES!!!!! I love it. The PQ is incredible. And it is silent. My only complaint is that the VGA input is too finicky - it takes some work to get it to output certain resolutions. I don't use the VGA input so it doesn't bother me. And there will probably be a firmware upgrade in the near future.

I was trying to get anyone who has this machine to give their view on it... perhaps hoping someone who had not yet posted but was silently hoarding their knowledge ;) might chime in. And I'm anxious about my plan to fork over 5500 euros for one even tho I can't wait to get it home so I'm fussy like an old maid (even tho I'm a guy) ;) Will have to do that major no-no... buying sight unseen. Nowhere in reasonable distance to demo one of these... which increases my anxiety levels.

If a finicky VGA input is the worst "problem" so far then I guess there is no problem. :)

I'm in the position of buying my first projector and just about certain that this is the one I'll be going for.

Snathen, am I right in assuming that the DVI input is just as finicky as the VGA input ? I intend to go the HTPC route via DVI. I guess finicky isn't as bad as "doesn't-work". The great thing about places like this is we can share the knowledge in order to overcome these sorts of things and get the best out of what we have.

I didn't try the dvi input but I've heard its the same. I was able to get my friends htpc to work with the tw1000 by entering a wierd resolution like 1180 x 666 in powerstrip. LoFi and Morpheus have played with the resolutions alot and can help you out if you need it.

Today Epson Germany sayed, a new firmware is available now.

You can not update it yourself, because a special cable is required, you have to ask your distributor.

The update fixes problems with "Macrovision" and the 1280x720 pixel perfection.

I hope to see an updated TW-100 at the end of this week.

In the german "*********.de" forum some people reported, that the problems are solved.

Hi Ingo,

Do you have details of the new firmware version number and also if Epson will be shipping all new units alreadyy upgraded?

Hi Kimmo,

We will be holding a shootout between the TW100 and AE100 at the end of June, courtesy of a fellow enthusiast who is making his home available for a group of interested people to view this unit in action with various input sources. I will be making my decision whether or not to buy the TW100 on the basis of this viewing session. Watch this forum for a report back at the beginning of July if you can wait that long!

I'll read it with interest, but I've now officially "cracked" ;) and will be placing my order tomorrow. I'm still trying to decide between the 2 meter wide vs the 2.4 meter wide screen though. My mind says 2, my heart says 2.4! :)

Not sure which side is winning.

2 meters is the most sensible choice from a viewing distance point of view, but... big is fun.

I still do not have my own TW100, I hope to get one with the new firmware for testing next weekend.

What I know is:

- the update allows 1280x720 pixel perfect

- Macrovision is working

- You can NOT update the firmware yourself, a special cable is needed

- Epson is fixing the shipped units for the distributors

- Customers must return it, but the update is free of charge.

- I do not know, how to check, which firmware version is installed,

but you can test the new features by trying to get 1280x720 with DVI

- I think, perhaps in 4 weeks all shipped units have the new firmware

installed.

I placed an order for my TW100 yesterday and was informed that the update would be sent out to me or made available as a download from the web. I suspect though that the only way to get the update into the projector would be via the RS232 port.

HBut, please let us know how you updated the TW100

I also ordered my TW100 today. Probably won't see it for a week or so though. Oooh boy, am I looking forward to it. Firmware doesn't seem like a big deal for me (macrovision-disabled DVD player, won't be going HTPC) but I may send it in anyway in a month or two.

Here a picture of the cable, from the german ********* forum.

The cable is still not available for users, this photo was taken by chappie, a german dealer, when the epson service visited him.

@coupe333

the lines can be seen on many LCDs and have been reported by other TW100 owners, too :-(

I did not notice them when watching the TW100 first time. Do you see them during a movie? Do you think, these lines are a problem, or do you see then only when looking for them?

The strange thing is, if this lines are pixel-lines how can I see only the vertical and not also the horizontal?..

my girlfriend see them only if I show them ,but I see them very often..

I don’t know if this is a problem or is an LCD technology bug….
