Epson Home Cinema 3800 (TW7100) vs. Optoma UHD52ALV

3079 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  InvincibleDarsh
For my room size, these are the only models compatible as the Epson 3800 is comparatively smaller and Optoma has wide angle lens but what's confusing is which ones the best in terms of the performance and specs are concerned. Any advise or suggestions on deciding on either one of them will be greatly appreciated.

Without knowing more about your space and screen I can’t recommend others but I’d go with the Epson 3800 over the Optoma. The Epson has much better contrast and this review by Passion Home Cinema doesn’t make the Optoma sound great: Test Optoma UHD52ALV : l’avis de Grégory – – Le Blog de PHC –

For a comparable review for the 3800, although there are a lot more of them from other sites:

Perhaps you could provide the needed dimensions, and typical displayed content, for more informed advice on potential projectors.

The BenQ TK850 has similar throw ratios and lens shift to the UHD52ALV and seems to generally outperform it. The new UHD35 seems to perform well.

Thanks for your response. The dimensions goes like this: projection length (distance from the wall till the 110“ screen) = 3.6m, the height ( from the floor to the ceiling) 2.6m and the width is 3.9m. I use the projector mainly for streaming UHD movies, videos and sometimes play games on my xbox.

Any 3D?

I saw the UHD52 ALV optoma and I have an Epson HC3800. Definitely Epson's image is much, much deeper. Plus, this optoma was quite blurry for a 4K DLP HC3800 it looked sharper, also because the contrast affects the perceived sharpness ..

Ill be the oddball here and say i had both the epson and the optoma and felt the epson had focus issues and much shorter bulb life, Half the pixels, and i prefer dlp because ive had to fix so many burnt polarizers in lcd. The pro for the epson was that the contrast and colors were better but not a huge difference like stepping up to the 5050 which looks significantly better than either of them. i chose the optoma. Personally I think all of the big brands similar priced projectors have a similar image quality.
