Has anyone heard of the PowerLite Home 10?

From the following website www.globetechnology.com

Quote:
TORONTO, Sept. 8 — Epson Canada Ltd. has introduced the Epson PowerLite Home 10, a projector delivering 16:9 widescreen cinematic experience for $1,999 (Cdn.). The PowerLite Home 10 projects video at 480 pixels native resolution (854 by 480) and in a 16:9 wide aspect ratio used in major motion pictures.
That is an amazing price for a projector in Canada. It corresponds to a US MSRP of ~$1430.

I am still amazed at how small the price increment on this thing is between Canada and the US. Most projectors are marked up much more when sold in Canada. The local large format A/V retailers have been advertizing many projectors at this price point of late, but this is the first one purpose designed for HT to come in sub 2k.

I've seen a second demo of the projector today. The first demo I saw was with a very badly calibrated projector.

My impressions now:

1. Screen door is quite visible on this projector. Especially if you use it with a HTPC displaying normal Windows computer applications.

2. Picture quality for video is above average for projectors in this price range. Good colour saturation and respectable contrast.

3. Very quiet, even when you listen up close for fan noise.

Would I recommend this projector? Yes, with the caveat on SDE.

I was so impressed by this projector that I bought one.

I would suggest that the one demoed by neversoftpl was not setup properly.

I was bothered by rainbows on the X1, so went looking for a budget LCD projector. I was really impressed by this one at the price it is.

I can see screendoor if I am looking for it (on a 100" screen that I am sitting a little bit too close to). But usually I just enjoy watching movies on my big beautifull screen.

I'm considering this projector as well. I was wondering how large the difference is between the theater black mode and normal mode with regards to contrast and brightness. When you put it on high power mode does the contrast level noticably decline? Mabee this is how neversoftpl saw it. Epson is usualy fairly conservative (accurate) on their specifications.

It's strange that you were able to get it so early way out there I havent seen it for sale anywhere and I have been looking.

Yes there is a difference, theatre black mode is alot less bright than the other 3 modes, has better contrast, is quieter, and gives 1000 hours longer bulb life. I use this mode for almost all my viewing.

It is a bit unusual, normally we get stuff a couple of months after the US, but we seem to have got this model before everybody else.

No DVI-HDCP, but it does have a proper Component input, which alot of budget projectors miss out on. So no need to buy a component to vga adaptor, or use the s-video port.

Glad to hear someone has one of these!!! I am really looking forward to it myself (first "real" Home theatre, my living rooom just has a tv with a 5.1 setup) I have called Epson Canada a few times over the last while, october first they told me it was due at the end of september and should be shipping the first week of october, I had mentioned that it WAS the first week of october and she said.... "oh..."

Called again on monday and was told that there are some delays coming to the american market (maybe they sold them all in NZ!!!) but i was welcome to call and inquire again later...

I have a relaitvely small den right now (10x10) so i won't be projecting any huge screens... but at least it is dark (no windows) so i am hoping to get some nice black levels. once i get my home theatre started in the basement, i am going to have a much bigger room to play with, but for now i figured this will keep me and the wife busy!

:)
