VOOM is running a commercial about a new exclusive channel named "Equator HD". What I got from the commercial is that it starts on 6/15 and the concept looks similar to Discover HD. Does anybody else have any more info?

I'd almost think this was an April Fools joke with a name like that... :)

Perhaps this is the new name for one of their existing exclusive channels?

Well, I know that they're re-structuring the Cinema10 channels. Maybe this channel is replacing one of the Cinema10, similar to what they're doing with DivineHD. Either way it sounds like a good move. Discovery HD is one of my favorites so I'm sure I'll like this channel. :)

I watched about 10 minutes of the Inuit program the other night on DHD... right up until they went on the seal hunt. Then it looked like it was getting a bit too graphic for dinnertime veiwing :).

It's VOOM's way of offsetting the anger over DivineHD.. :D
That's an interesting concept...

Chicks in bikinis as a counterbalance of gay programming. :)

It is a national geographic/discovery style channel from what I have heard. I do not believe it is going to replace an existing channel, but if they did, they should ax MOOV before they ax one of the HD Cinema 10 channels.

Looks like InHD won't be added if they will be using bandwidth for new "exclusive" channels (at least until more bandwidth is "created" via new compression method or otherwise).

If the channel is an exclusive, it might be a replacement for one of their other exclusives. They might end up shuffling their content between their channels to realign and redefine them, much like they are doing with HD Cinema 10.

I don't care how much of this crap they add as long as they don't run out of bandwidth. The minute they are out of bandwidth and a real channel comes along, they better get rid of some of these channels to make room.

One of the Cinema 10 channels could have come out of the closet and become Divine and if Equator is going to be 6 hours of good material on a short loop, that's not going to add that much.

Coming soon to Voom:

Tropic of Cancer HD

Tropic of Capricorn HD

Arctic Circle HD

Antarctic Circle HD

International Dateline HD

Prime Meridian HD

Note: The above was an attempt at humor, not an attempt to trash Voom. Voom is great.

Hey, don't knock the beauty of satellite photos in HDTV. If they ever did something like that, I would certainly prefer it to be a satellite that was NOT in geosyncronous orbit.

I'd welcome the International Dateline HD channel. It'd probably be 24/7 display of Today's date. It's so irritating that when I want to know what date it is, I became accustomed to hitting info on the D* receiver. Voom has no date display. Now I switch to D* and hit info just to get the damn date.

I'm not sure about the others, but I'm pretty sure I'm in the "White Area" for all of them, so I should qualify. :)

I suspect that EquatorHD will replace Epics as the later is becoming one of the Cinema10.
