Hi,

I am lingering between 2 different designs for a room and in one case the gear is all in the next room.

Is there something (less then $100) that will get the IR from my theater and re-blast it in the equipment room next door?

One of my ideas give me a theater that's 150"x130"x90" that's purely rectangular. The other makes it a L shaped room that's somewhat square if you didn't have the L shape and has extra room for the gear to be inside the room.

I know you can get a basic Niles (MSU140) ~$60 but the wall mount IR sensors (at least the one I got--- Niles WS100R are ~$75). I think they make a cheaper version of it but thought it was still ~$50. The flashers are cheap depending on which one you select ~$5-$15/each.....so to answer your question.....I think you might have trouble trying to keep it under $100, BUT for not too much more than that....it is possible. Shop around....perhaps there are other less expensive options for you.

I think all I need for the moment is an IR repeater.. So I'll check out the Radio Shack version. I'll also check in the Niles stuff since I have no knowledge of that stuff and it will make some interesting reseach.

Thanks,

Brian

I have a Dinky Link. Geez I'm embarrassed just saying that.. but it works. Easy to add on and expand.

I got a:

NEW Recoton/ExpressVu Wireless Remote Control Extender Kit

ONLY $14.95 PER SET!

from ebay for $21.95 shipped.

I have not been able to use it much, but it seems to work just fine.

Best Regards,

Doug

Brain, we use a Xantech wired IR repeater system. It is easy to wire. The most labor intensive part is a wall fish for the sensor plate.

I also use a Xantech system. Love it. A bit more thatn $100 though.

Having the system outside the room helps keep things sealed up, less distractions, less things to impede treatments, seating, etc.

Xantech here, too.

My equipment is in a closet at the back of my theater. The closet door is outside the theater so that when I open the door, I see the back of all the equipment. There is a cutout in the closet, so I can see the equipment when I'm in the theater. This is probably similiar to how many have their rooms set up.

I also have my equipment in another room and I'm using a SpeakerCraft set. After trying the sub $100 systems which blasted the equipment and not experiencing reliable performance, I settled on the SpeakerCraft package which I purchased for ~$180 Cdn. Instead of blasting the equipment the distribution block allows you to connect multiple IR emitters which stick directly to the IR window on my equipment. It works 100% of the time and was well worth the premium IMO.

I bought the HotLink Pro set from Smarthome. It includes 6 emmitters and was under $80.

Have had the same product for more than a year with 0 problems. I highly recommend for the money if you have less than 6 components...
