There is an error in Dish 6000 software that makes it difficult to add certain HD channels. This was confirmed as a software error by DISH customer service. In Houston, this affects the PBS HD feed (digital version of channel 8, which is broadcast on channel 9). When you attempt to do the "ADD DTV" channel for channel 9, everything appears fine - strong signal, and it locks in. The "save" even appears to work, but the channel - which stores as channel 80, is inaccessible.

There is a cumbersome workaround. Get into HDTV Setup, and specify the ANALOG TYPE as "CABLE" rather than "OFF-AIR." You will be able to successfully add the channel, and view it. Unfortunately, you can't leave the setting this way if you want to watch analog UHF channels OTA. In order to view these, you have to change the ANALOG TYPE back to "Off-Air."

This software error will affect any geographical area with a channel number over (I think) 65.

What other areas have this problem? If anyone hears when this error will be fixed, please post it.
