Having a need to reset a FireBall DVDM-100 to factory defaults, Escient support told me I could accomplish this via a hidden "Advanced Utilities" menu within setup. Having spent a lot of time searching the AVS (and other) forums for this useful information, I thought I would pass it along.


To access the 'Setup - Advanced Utilities' screen (for ALL the FireBall models, apparently), do the following:

1. Go to the setup screen.
2. Enter the numeric sequence 8020.

This brings up a screen with the following selections:

• Restore factory defaults
• Force reregistration (restarts unit)
• Library index rebuild (restarts unit)
• Lookup all music coverart
• Lookup all movie coverart
• Exit

I realize this is from 8 years ago but I have an Escient that I am trying to use with Sony changers. Dummy here set the box for FB3 but my remote is FB1 and it's a universal, not an Escient remote. Any idea how to reset the box to FB1 without being able to get into the setup menu? I also have a keyboard but the instructions for how to set the keyboard to FB3 don't work, it says use code 1121 for FB3 but it won't take that code.

Solved my own problem. Using a JP1 remote, so I was able to determine from the JP1 forum that the MCE protocol sends a device code 1-4 along with the IR commands, which are otherwise identical. So I modified the device code to 3 and voila! Thanks to Robman for such thorough documentation on how the remote sends commands.
