Hi everyone

Probably most of the people and collector's here doesn't have Muse Hi-Vision Laserdisc movies, but i am buying a CRT Projector (Cine 9) and since i have a few i would like to know if my experience will be positive, comparing to my Pioneer Plasma KRP-600A that is pretty good...

What about standard NTSC Laserdiscs, how will they look in a 130 inch screen with a Barco Cine 9 for example?

Many tanks to you all

Hello. I do not have a top end equipment like you but on my modest setup beter laserdisc rival dvd in quality of the picture. I use leserdiscs for years with Faroudja scaler and nec pg+ projector. I think with yours they will look very good. Robert.

Do you think i will need a Video Processor?

I'm also connection the LD-S2, i think it's a pretty good High End Player, and better than the X9 in my opinion...

Welcome to the forum

As far as a VP is concerned...a few years back...I would have said it is a must!

...but then again you are buying a pretty decent piece of hardware (The Barco Cine 9! ...so I guess you should have no issues paying a little more to get a Lumagen and enjoy it much more that you would without it!)

It is always a nice addition to pretty much any setup...specially if you gonna be using laser disks!

Good luck with your new toys and I have no doubt that you will enjoy it much more than the/any plasma/LCD panel!

Tank you everyone

All opinions we're helpful.

Now in what concerns the Video Scaler i will do some research, but i see some Faroudja Scalers that used to cost around $20000 USD go for $1000 USD and less...

I will also check Crystalio II ; DVDO VPRO; Lumagen

The LD-S2 is a very good player when it comes to chroma noise and precise

reading of a disc. it's a little soft and there's no pure video output

I do have both the HLD-X0 and the LD-S2 and prefer the HLD-X0.

a good video processor like the Crystalio 2 that has a very good 3D Y/C

comb filter is recommended.

the Faroudja beasts of the past can't hold up to the latest video proessors

using the Gennum & Realta / Reon chips.

Faroudja is so yesterday like the teenagers say!

For a CRT nothing beats a Lumagen with 11 pi=oint gamma correction! (...although the crystalios are nice too...but too rich for my taste! For the money a Lumagen is great!)

I use a x9 combined with a Crystalio II. It looks very nice on my calibrated marquee 9500 ultra.

Muse looks very good also, I never noticed the complaints about bad compression in dark scenes. I think it's mostly because calibration was very unknown years back. Watched universal soldiers yesterday and the openingsscene's in the dark are very good.

Hi it is good to hear a good experience with Muse Hi-Vision LDs on CRT. I also own Muse Discs. What about Back to the Future; E.T; Close Encounters... The picture is good? Can you put some photos of screenshoots?

Why would you want to watch 15 year old HD transfers of movies you can have with a newer transfer?

Close Encounters is out on Blu, the others have been shown on US & UK

television.

Well,

Let's make it clear, there is no reason not to buy the BluRay instead. Much better PQ. But the crystalio makes it a good watcheble picture. Close encounters isn't a very good transfer, ET isn't in my collection.

Muse is more a collectors item, it's old technology after all. The scenery looks very good instead. Wish they had that quality on the movies, if they had.. it was a winner!

Ok let me tell all of you what i think...

Muse Hi-Vision Movies are even today a pure "Luxury Format".

Ok, some say some transfers are not the best, but i give you some good examples of good transfers...... Starting on Back to the Future Trilogy thiis is the only way to watch them in HD, and the transfers are better than DVD.

NOTE: Running on Pioneer HLD-X0 + Sony MSC-4000

Some more good examples are: Jumanji; Universal Soldier; E.T; Far and Away; Legends of the Fall; A River Runs Trough It; Terminator 2....etc...

Another aspect to refer is the luxury of the packing, 90% of them are presented in Box Sets with Booklets.

And grabbing a Muse LD is an enjoyment that only a collector can explain...

From what I've read the Crystalio has the better comb filter of the ones you've mentioned for NTSC LD's using the composite output on the X0 or X9. I assume MUSE output is component or RGB so wouldn't be an issue there.

Just to share an experience that i think is great...

I have tested Back to the Future I,II and III on DVD and Muse Hi-Vision Versions with the following setup:

-Pioneer Plasma KRP-600A; Pioneer DV-LX50; Pioneer HLD-X0 and Sony MSC-4000 Muse Decoder.

Results: The Muse Hi-Vision Version beats the trilogy on DVD by 2x times superior.

First of all is more "Film like" and i actually prefer that look to the "Digital" look. And second the Sound is way, way better...

Conclusion: Muse LD is a completely different story from DVD, and some of the transfers still beat the DVD's and i can't wait to watch it on the Cine 9... it will blast DVD by far.

And if you guys want more examples check "Stargate"; "Jurassic Park" and few more as a "Reference" in Muse.
