Hi Guys,

not sure if this is the right place to ask but.

I have my A/v Receiver in another room and want to present the headphones jack in the room we do our watching in, but if i make up the cable to extend the jack as soon as i plug it in it mutes the speakers.

surely there must be a way to extend this jack without the a/v reciever thinking there is something plugged in until i plug in the headphones in the other room.

Thanks in advance

There are 2 switching circuits inside the earphone jack that open the feeds to the speaker terminals/selector switch (A/B speakers). As soon as a plug is inserted, the contacts open.

You can build a small level pad to drop and control the earphone level as an accessory using one set of the speaker outputs. However the earphone level is now dependent on the volume delivered to the actual speakers in the other room. That means that if the speakers are at a low volume in the main room, you would need to open the remote volume control for the headphones all the way.
