Between the two, I'd get the Samsung.
I'd also:
a) buy locally. Go to a brick and mortar store. You want to be dealing with people face to face just in case you do have issues with the TV.
b) buy the extended warranty. It puts in a whole different arena should you run into trouble. Instead of dealing with, say, Samsung, you're then dealing with Best Buy or Circuit City.
Just a bit of background. I don't normally buy extended warranties either. I don't think I should have to, but that's just me. I just bought a Sony KDL-40XBR2 and this line of TVs is having it's share of problems, too. These TVs are suffering from a mura defect commonly referred to as clouding. The Sammys are having that same trouble and the Sharps are having banding issues. Anyhow, I opted to buy locally and picked up the three year service plan. Get the shortest, cheapest plan out there. You can always extend it, if needed. Anyhow, Sony has been dismissing customer complaints regarding the mura and telling folks that the condition is "normal". They are NOT repairing these defective TVs. Now, if all I had was the mfg. warranty, I'd be in a bad place. However, I've got a CC warranty and that will cover the repair and/or replacement. Luckily, the TV I have does NOT have the mura defect, but should it develop, I'm covered.
Hope this helps and happy viewing!
