HI all. I have a goal of moving all of my equipment behind the wall my TV is mounted on to reduce clutter. I've been able to do this with everything using bluetooth except my receiver. The problem is that the remote is IR and it doesn't work behind the wall.


By behind the wall, i really mean in the bedroom closet, which is on the other side of the tv wall. It's maybe 10 feet away from the couch, around a corner.


The manual for the receiver says the following:


"Bi-directional Ethernet & RS-232 Port for 3rd Party Control Systems (Device Discovery, E-control, etc.)"


I think this is directly related to what i want to do. In my head, I'm picturing a mini-receiver, which displays the same info as the main receiver display (volume, etc), and has a bluetooth / IR port on it, which connects to the receiver itself.


Is there any piece of technology that will let me do what i want?



tldr: does a bluetooth or IR extension/addon exist for this receiver?

You should be able to use any number of IR extender kits to extend the use of the AVR's stock IR remote. They generally come with emitters that sit over the IR sensor on the front panel display of the AVR or some come with 3.5mm plugs that can plug straight in to the IR input on the back of the AVR.

I see there is an IR port on the back of the receiver. The only downfall to that is I can't see the current input selected and the volume, both of which are useful.


The ability to control my receiver from an iphone is very alluring, if that is possible money would not be much of an issue to make that happen.

If the Integra doesn't have an OSD/GUI, then you would either need a bi-directional remote such as you quoted in your first post or you may be able to use either the iPhone app (OnkoTron) or Android REMOTE app (OnkyTroller).

Can you recommend a remote? Searching for 'bi-directional remote' on amazon only returns keyless car remotes.

No, but I can recommend a site to do some research --> http://www.remotecentral.com/ , although I would check out the iPhone REMOTE app as that can be used anywhere in the house where there is access to your home network.

I've used one for years to control the satellite box in the living room from the bedroom - works great and it uses radio frequencies to repeat IR signals past walls. It will do exactly what you want that any remote is capable of doing. It will control any of your components that are within range of the receiver/transmitter unit.

Note that in both of the above cases, Amazon reviews in recent years indicate both products are hit or miss (mostly miss though).

4 out of 5 stars is "mostly miss"? Looks like 80% satisfaction rate to me, actually a little higher.

Xantech and Niles make the pro quality stuff but way more expensive than the mini pyramids. I bought the xantech kit and plug directly into receiver. Comes with 4 sticky ir for the other equipment.
