I've just started beta testing a Mot 6208 DCT for my local cable company and have been reading the numerous threads relative to the 6200, 6208, & 6414. There is much on recording via the FireWire connection to a PC but I haven't seen any update on external hard-drive expansion via the 1394 port. It may be here, but I haven't found it. Therefore, does anyone know what the status is of being able to expand the DVR capability by adding a FW connected hard drive to the box?

Thus far I am very pleased with the box. At present I'm only receiving ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC DTV broadcasts and they appear to be as good a quality as what I receive from DirecTV. I have CBS via DirecTV and can do an A-B comparison and with the eye, I can't tell any difference. I will soon be getting HDNet, HDNet Movies, Discovery HD Theater, ESPNHD, and HBO-H all of which I get from DirecTV now, so I'll be able to make further comparisons.

If some of you could bring me up to date on external hard drive operation, or lack there of, with the 6208 I will be grateful.

tom,

It will depend on your cable provider. Comcast has no current plans to support hard drive expansion on the 6208.

bfdtv, thanks for the reply. Do you know whether v 7.15 supports an external drive and the local cable company has to set some flags or is a new firmware update required? My cable company is a small locally owned one and I have a good relationship with the owners and they are trying to get up to speed on this themselves.

Thanks,

Tom

No, 7.15 does not support external drives.

Thanks, my cable owner just got off the phone with Motorola and they are telling him that the capability to support external hard drives will be added next year. I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks for your help.
