Well I finally set everything up in MCE 2005. Got my surround sound to work and everything. Im using windvd6 codec.

Now I am experiencing a huge problem when watching DVDs. I have an SDTV. Now I have the original black bars on top and bottom show up. But for some reason there is another (a little grayer) set of black bars underneath them. And only then is their space for the video! Help! for some reason MCE doesnt see that those bars have already been placed or something?

This is not happening when I watch the video directly in Windvd. Please help. Im soo tired already configuring this.

On a properly calibrated setup, including the tv, those almost disappear. But those are normal for either anamorphic or non-anamorphic movies, I cant remember. I think its on anamorphic movies played back on SD displays....Anyone else?

Dont mean to be rude, but that is not a fix. If I understand what you did, you just chopped off valuable movie from both sides of the screen to cut down on black bars. Never a good solution for any movie fan. Which is why you're here correct?

i really have no help to offer aside from some sympathy. i spent hours this weekend working on my HTPC, but i have a similar issue i still have to address. i have a 16x9 HDTV and i am using sagetv but use zoomplayer for DVD playback. when i watch a DVD (i think this happens in windvd as well) it looks as though he DVD player thinks i am using a 4x3 TV because it puts black bars on the sides. then it adds the usual letterboxing bars to the bottom.

so i get a movie picture the same shape as my tv, but much smaller. this is a big problem i still need to work on. i got so much else done this weekend though :) anyway, take heart- i'm sure there is a solution for both of us.

no no, Ccarncross I can nuderstand why u would htink that. But some1 on the green button just told me to press that button and I did and it worked. I think the problem was that it was zooming in too much or something. Oh well. All is well now. Thanks for your help though appreciate it :)
