Extreme Newbie Question about subwoofer cables

690 Views 10 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  help-r-monkey
First off Sorry! I’m sure this question has been asked before, but here goes.

What is the truth about subwoofer cables? I don’t want hype. I’ve looked at a bunch of makes of subwoofer cables that run from 15 dollars all the way up to hundreds.

So my question is. I have a fifteen-foot run and I want a decent subwoofer cable. Do I really need to spend more than fifteen dollars on a cable? If so why and is it worth it.

Thanks

Bart

No, spend less.
Fifteen dollars is about right for a fifteen foot run. I'm using AR that I bought at BestBuy. I think it's 24' for $20.
BJY, if you're sure this question has been asked before, why didn't you do a search to see what the answer is?
$ spent on cable should be in relation with the price of receiver and subwoofer. I wouldn't spend 40-60 dollars or more on a 100-200 dollar subwoofer. I mean there is a reason why they put high performance tires on high performance sports cars. Know What I mean Vern!

No, it shouldn't be.
Ok, that's my bad! QUALITY of cable should equal that of receiver and subwoofer!

I use AR as sub cable. I'm about ready to upgrade my infinity PS-12 sub and Receiver. I don't have any plans to buy new sub cable.
I have never heard of any testing done on sub cables that would prove that there is any difference in any of them.
Some good old RG6 coax & some decent RCA ends make for a good cheap cable. Parts Express has several RCA's to choose from, or your local Radio Shack should have them & you can get some RG6 just about anywhere. I have made several of my interconects this way & they all work just as good as anything I've ever used.
IF you have a self powered sub then the cable price and size are going to make little difference......since this only carries a signal and is not driving your sub. get the cheap one.
