I didn't realize that they had IR receivers. I use serial to control my 8+. If you're already using Girder, you can probably get it hooked up that way (assuming you have RS-232 control on your switcher).

Open the plate and look a socket position U21 -- if it is populated then it has IR control as well (IR201/IR301 Extron part #70-037-01 chip and remote). I am using HouseBot so I can hook serial via both the HTPC and the Global Cache GC-100, but I am trying to reserve the serial ports for the Marquee and others. It is also a lot easier to send IR codes than serial commands.

I also control mine with a serial link (and CQC - there's a driver available for this unit). I'd suggest that you should consider serial control if that's an option for you as it's far more reliable than IR. As others have said, you could use Girder for this purpose - the protocol is ASCII and easy to use.

OK - Option 2 --- connect it directly to the Marquee via the Marquee Switcher control connection, the System 8+ is set for Marquee. Looking at the connection diagrams Extron has a little comm adapter plug that is supposed to go at the end of the straight through comm cable between the Extron and the Marquee at the Marquee end. It looks like a pinout adapter (Null Modem?) .

Does anybody know what this does and if it is a simple Null Modem adapter?

Thanks

It's a 9-pin serial plug at the PJ end and a HD-15 (VGA-style) plug at the switcher.

I wired my Marquee up to it and it works like a champ - don't know why I didn't think of it when replying yesterday.

There's no need to buy the Extron conversion box - just the cable will be perfect. I was cautious of this approach at first but I've been running in this configuration for over 12 months now and haven't had a single problem in that time.

I'll see if I can find the pinouts and post back. There's a thread somewhere here on AVS (probably in the archives now) with the pinouts.

Thanks Andy, the 8+ is supposed to be here early next week. Trying to get setup so that I can rack and stack when it arrives. Now if only MP would get that MP-5 out of production and into our hot little hands and I will be finished? Nahhh!
