I use mine to hide my front three speakers, equipment rack, allows me to fully treat the front wall with 1" linacoustic and recess the screen in a 8" deep shadow box for better black levels. I also plan on hiding a couple corner bass traps behind it as well.
If that is not enough, it can be an Architectural feature as mine is not a straight profile, it skews toward the audience on a 20 degree angle on each side of the screen (similar to EBR's second theater - Thanks)
All these are pluses as long as you have the depth in you room to do it. I would not have done it if it would have taken away seating or made the room feel to cramped.
