We're completely renovating a 11x12 room. The wall are brick, and the idea is to put beadboard over 2x4 framing (with the 2x4s laid flat against the brick on the inside wall, where the TV will go.) This is not a high-end build and it is a dual-purpose room. The TV is a50" sony xbr hx909; i'm thinking of Dynaudio IP17 speakers for the fronts and center, ic17 for rears. I have a decent SVS sub and a sony ES reveiver (i had a lot on "Sony points" to spend at one point).

My question is: how bad is it, acoustically, to have the beadboard walls? My wife "hates drywall"--the look, that is, in this 1920s house that has plaster almost everywhere. With the sort of equipment i have, is this really a big issue for sound? Wuld it be signifivpcantly better to put the beadboard over drywall?

I'm not a big 2-channel audiophile, but audio is a hobby for me. My 2-channel system is based on Totem Arros, to give some perspective, and i once spent some time using a bfd to improve my sub sound, in an earlier configuration.

Thanks!

Another thought: would plaster over blueboard be better, acoustically speaking, than the beadboard?

No one? Is this a dumb question? Wrong forum?

I would have thought the question of plaster vs drywall might have an answer.

Thanks

You didn't mention that you were trying to sound-proof, so I am going to assume you are asking about how the room sounds rather than how soundproof the options are.

I doubt any of your options will make much difference in terms of acoustics. Bead-board walls won't sound much different than drywall or plaster. Improving the acoustics would require acoustic treatments, which is a rather large topic.

Thanks. The people at Totem and my installers had more-or-less the same opinion. Still, good to get some confirmation.
