Hi All,

First off I just want to say what a great forum this is! I have been reading it for years but this is my first posting.
My question is this, my fan finally went out on my Sony KDSR-60XBR1 SXRD. It was the large fan that cools off the bulb. I can buy a replacement fan at a local dealer and it is the large 120mm box looking fan. I was just wondering if there was any way that I can go to my local computer store and just purchase a computer case fan from there. The computer case fan they have looks exactly the same and they have the three cables on it just like the original fan, red, black and yellow. The orginal fan model number is DC MOTOR SFF21C/C-NP. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or comments. Thanks in advance

Not sure how old this thread is I'm bran new to AVS, but electronics is a huge hobby of mine and I had to respond not just you for but for others as well.

I have a Sony SXRD 60" as well and my cooling fan started to take a downword spiral to the trash can just like yours and probably almost everyone that owns this TV.

I tried to buy a case cooling fan with the same 3 wire hook up. Yellow is the fan speed sensor, red is power and black is obviously return. Problem is the Sony SXRD has a control board that plugs into the fan wiring that monitors the voltage input and output of the fan. The control board looks for a specific amperage from the fan which in this case the control board is set to accept 0.24Amps and the voltage is obviously 12VDC the V meaning volts and the DC meaning direct current.. I have tried many fans outside of these settings and so far nothing has worked. Trying to find a PC case fan at these settings is next to impossible, I have searched for the last 4 months with no hits at all. What I did is take the fan out of the TV clean it, I pulled the fins off and cleaned the brushes and sprayed electrical contact cleaner until the entire fan was spotless. I assembled the fan and put it back into the TV and it has worked now for 5 months. But now it totally bit the dust so I am forced to buy a fan specific for the Sony SXRD. The fan model is SFF21C Make sure the label on the fan says 12VDC 0.24A. I ordered mine from Amazon I even tried buying a PC case fan with a higher amp such as a .028A in short it didn't work either.

I have to say that even to todays TV's 10-26-12 that the Sony SXRD still outperforms visually any TV I have seen on the market including the 240htz LED TV's. This is why I am trying to salvage this tv. We all know this TV had a class action law suit against sony for the Video block...but now it seems that this TV is plagued by other imperfections as well.

Good luck with your TV

Greenie
