Faroudja NR/DVD combo update..

Found out today that the combo unit will be delayed until the end of May. No reasons why but, my guess is their inability to get the DVI output to sync with 90% of the plasmas available today. That's just my speculation, no reasons were given.

Ericbee:

Do you know if this unit is part of the Native Rate Series? If so, will it support a 72Hz refresh rate for Pioneer plasmas?

Thanks in advance.
It is part of the NR series. It is optimized for plasma and digital displays but, will have a fixed refresh rate of 60 and not 72. I have no idea how Faroudja gets 60hz to work with the Pio but, I haven't seen too many complaints.

Thanks for the info. You have of course seen the thread started by me on the herky, jerky camera pan problem the NRS has with a 503CMX and I'm not the only one who has reported it. I'm amazed that many more people aren't noticing it. Maybe there aren't many NRS's out there being used with Pioneers. In any event, IMHO, the NRS is an unacceptable product with 1280 x 768 Pioneers running at a 60Hz refresh rate.:(

I understand from a separate thread started by asinshesq that he had the same problem with a Leeza, but solved it by changing the refresh rate to 72Hz, based on excellent advice from you.:)

Keep up the good work!
While a little off topic for this thread, here's the other two threads that Jim references in regard to NRS complaints in conjunction with the 503:

I mention these only to keep some focus on this problem which has left me, and perhaps some others, with an investment in a scaler that causes more problems than it helps. If the new DCS has the same video processing section as the NRS, it seems likely this problem will persist, making the investment a dubious choice.
Well, I guess that answers my question. I knew that the Leeza at 60hz into the Pio was unacceptable but, I had heard conflicting reports on 60hz thru the NR, some said no problems and others have problems. 72hz thru the Leeza solved my problems and i suspect it would solve others too. Maybe that's another reason why the combo hasn't shipped yet?
