Faroudja or Silicon Image/ Film or Video

279 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Joxer
Its generally agreed that the Faroudja deinterlacer is better for video and the Silicon Image is better for film.

So I would like to pose two questions.

First, how can you tell if a DVD is video or film based?? I've looked at the cover on a couple of DVDs and didn't see anything that jumped out that said so.

Second question. Is the movie industry shifting towards video or is it staying film based??

The imdb database can tell you the master format. Here is an example listing. Most films are film based, but much of the additional material can be video sourced. I see no reason for the movie industry to move towards video.

Movies are nearly all film-based. Special features, TV episodes, and other "video tape" looking titles are video-based. Both de-interlacers are good with both types, Faroudja is slightly better on video-based titles and Silicon Image is only slightly better on film-basd titles, but you can't go wrong with either de-interalcer for both types.
