Hi first time poster here...

I just wanted to get some feedback on this build. After doing some research I wanted to put together a 5.1 system (movies, Xbox, little music) for around $1k. Here's what I found:

Fronts: Polk R50's or Infinity Primus P252

Center: Polk CS2 or Infinity Primus P250

Rears: Polk Monitor 30's or Infinity Primus P152's

I was planning on a sub later on.

powered by the Onkyo TXSR706.

I am new to this stuff, mainly in the past I would just do HTiB's but in my new house that seems wrong in some way. Any feedback would be awesome, thanks all.

If your budget is near the 1k range, unless you already have the receiver I would go with something quite a bit cheaper then the TXSR706. For you budget the TX-SR507 or 607 would be better.

As for the speakers you selected, they are both great choices. I would lean more towards the POLK though, I just think they sound a bit better.

(if my memory of them serves me well enough, been a few months since I have been speaker shopping/auditioning).

Some other considerations would be to look into these brands, Energy, The Speaker company, JBL, Bic Acoustech (I own these and love them), JAMO, and ... well there are far too many for me to go into naming right now, but these are some great contenders to Polk and Infinity.

I do have to make note though; you may notice the low end a little lacking even with those tower. But it is a far better solution, IMO, to buy your speakers then the SUB later, rather then buying it with your 5.1 and reducing the amount you can put towards your speakers.

Happy Speaker Hunting!

Yeah I saw a lot of those brands like JAMO and TSC all over the speaker forum so I will check those out later today.

I went with the 706 for the receiver because my next purchase would be the sub and 2 more Monitor 30's speakers to fill the 7.1. I checked out the 607 and it was only $100 cheaper.

Thanks for the help

Polks sound great, but as raistline mentioned be sure to check out Energy.

You could get the 507 (as raistline mentioned) for less than 300 and could grab a NICE energy setup with the rest...

Like C-300 towers for the front for $114 each:

and... a C-C100 center for $150 or less:

and could add C-100's or C-50's for surrounds:
