File conversion .ts/.tp from .dvr-ms

5231 Views 12 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  megal_1
I would like to play .dvr-ms files on players that only accept .ts/.tp files. My searches for such a converter were not successful. Does anyone know of a suitable program?

Thanks

TSConverter can do several different types of conversions including .DVR-MS to .TS and it's free.

Get version 2.5.
In most cases VideoReDo, mpeg editor, (good, not free, free trial), can open DVR-MS and save as .ts or .mpg
rclifton,

Thanks, the tsconverter seems to perform the job well and quickly. However, it reports the source video as 853x480. This seems strange as the source files are either 1280x720 or 1920x1080.

zaphod,

Thanks. I had heard of VideoReDo, but had no idea it would perform this conversion.
VideoReDo does not convert as such, but removes the mpeg from the DVR-MS wrapper that contains it.

You didn't mention which card does the recording but the Hauppauge HVR1600 has a nasty habit of starting HD recordings with a few frames that are standard definition. (left in a buffer?) Other cards could have the same quirk. This would confuse some editing applications.
The recording card is ATi HDTV Wonder in MCE2005.
My videoredo will not remux dvrms to ts, saying something about "restricted content".

Gotta love Microsoft DRM.

Yep, MCE has the ability to restrict content based on flags that that no one else uses. One requirement with DVR-MS files is that you have to be running VRD on the same PC that recorded them. Some files can be opened locally that can't if you copy them to another PC or attempt to open them accross a network.

The content restriction is usually being placed there by MCE and not the hardware (see my signature). Many times the restriction flag has been added in error by an intermediary (local station, cableco, set-top-box, etc). If you drop the use of MCE and use other native or third party applications then you might find that you can actually record those programs without restrictions.

I use videoredo also. I do this to get around the "restricted content" problem. I convert the dvrms file to mpg. This works fine. Then if you need to you can convert to .ts files. Hope this helps.

I use VideoRedo but I don't use MCE. Can't you just open the .dvr-ms file and save it as a .ts file? Based on your description, it sounds like you need to use a 2-step process.

I don't think it matters if you run MCE or not. The restriction is encoded into the dvr-ms file itself. I tried to remux directly to a .ts file & videoredo tells me it cannot to it. Forgot the exact words used. But it will remux to a mpg file just fine with full resolution. I use a Iodata Linkplayer2 & it accepts High Def mpg files just fine. The only way I know how to do it is by the 2 step method. Sorry.

Anytime.

One thing I'm not sure i'm clear on tho. Is the misreported size causing a problem? Or are the resulting .TS files still in the original size? I've noticed that every now and then it reports some pretty wacky things in the info panel but the resulting files are always fine.
