After a few days of looking for lenses, I got two B&L anamorphic lenses (one with blue ring, and the other with red ring) from e-bay. The red one is almost perfect, clear and not yellow at all, the blue is yellowish, but is as well good for what I wanted to do.

I have a Davis DLS8 SVGA projector, so after a few tries with the anamorphics in front of the projectors original lens, I got to the point that this is a no go, as the picture is much too large even at the smallest zoom to fit onto the anamorphics without heavy vignetting.

I opened the projector completely up, removed the the original lens (not for the faint hearted http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif ) and what did I see - the original lens has not more than half an inch big on the entry side, tiny thing, especially if comparing it whith the fron element of the lens, which is just hughe in comparison.

And now for the most incredible thing, the DMD itself is black painted, only the pixel area is brightly metal, the rest is black. Aren't this projectors supposed to be with the 'silver' chips? I am not complaining but I was impressed with the black chip, no painting needed here http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

And now for the problem:

I got a few primary lenses, 65mm, 75mm, 110mm, 90mm, 55mm, and only one was able to focus far enough to be usefull, the rest were not small enough to fit in far enough (close enough to the DMD chip) to focus, as the light path lenses were in the way. Otherwise it looks like enough place in there.

Well, this was a show stopper. I sure was not able to move that...

I checked the original lens a little more closely and what I saw was if I removed the front element I could get quite smaller picture, as the picture itself in the lens is really quite small. Tried to take it apart, but it seems like it is made to 'not to be opened'.

So what I thought was: Is here anyone with some broken Davis projector, or even a lens with broken front element? I am the one who will be buying this part(s) from you http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

Perhaps I could rig something with it to make it work.

A few words about the picture I was getting with the primary&anamorphics: It was just with such a long throw, I couldn't possibly use. I had to go out on the lawn to hit the screen with large enough picture to be able to compare as the lens which was able to focus was not 'wide' enough to throw any reasonable picture even after 2x expansion of anamorphics lens.

So anyone with some parts not needed and willing to sell here is my e-mail: [email protected]

If anyone is going to try the same, I think it is not a good thing to do to the projector http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif

You can probably easily break it if not carefull.
