finalizing DVD+R disc

Using Liteon 5001, dubbed a VHS movie to DVD+R; the movie, 2:04, took the disc right to the end; I was able to finalize it in the LiteOn, but it wouldn't play on other DVD players that these same discs usually play on, even when recorded in the LiteOn. Did I not leave enough "room" on the disc to properly finalize it, even though it appeared to finalize properly (according to on-screen message on the LiteOn)? The disc plays fine in the LiteOn. Any ideas?
