I got the parts to mount my system and first data drive in one 5.25 inch bay. Not as cheap as velcro, but it got the 2.5 inch drive off the bottom of the case, now I can mate the connectors without interference from the case.

Only if your HTPC is the only PC you have. Personally, I don't see any need for an ODD at all if you have a desktop and a server somewhere in your house. I would be curious to see how many here have an HTPC as their main PC.

looks good, is there an insulating layer between the 2 drives. As long as they're not touching it's good, the drives get very hot under load and I wouldn't want 2 of them together.

there is a small space, approximately 1/16 inch
