Hey everyone! I am just writing to say that I am finally entering the world of PVR's and RepalyTV. I am a forum junkie so I am very happy I have found this one!!

Today I will be receiving a 5040 which I will be upgrading in the coming months.

Welcome to the forum!

And be prepared to watch TV in a whole new way...I'd explain, but it's more fun to find out on your own.:D

Welcome to the group. First off you should know this is a high-end group of people on this forum --- so you'll hear a lot of good and bad (a lot more bad it seems).

Just for the record, I bought 2 of the refurbished units - one was a 5040 (now a 5160) and the other is a 5060 (soon to be 5080). I connect via ethernet and have had zero problems with my two units.

You might get another impression by reading the forum, but remember these are mostly high-end users and of course the squeaky wheel makes the most noise - or something like that.

Again, welcome to the PVR world - it will definitely change your life (at least the way you watch TV). If you are a football fan, my first suggestion is to schedule a recording of the game you want to see this Sunday (add an extra hour via the advance settings) ---- then at 2:30 or 3pm (for a 1pm game) start watching the game. You'll be amazed how you have total control --- and watch the game in 1/2 of the time (or less). Football season is one of the best demonstrations of the PVR.

Good luck!

An example of the bad chiming in here:

Welcome to the wonderful world of PVRs. It's like converting to a new religion, although most relgious zealots are pretty mild by comparison.

Just remember that what we're talking about here is nothing less than the most important thing in the world. The sooner you understand that, the sooner the goings on in this forum will start to make sense.

I too would like to welcome you. I am going to echo the "squeeky wheel" sentiment. You will read about a lot of problems here while the majority of users I think have few or no problems. I've had four ReplayTV's since the first model and have had next to no problems with any of them.

The good news regarding the "problem noise" is that the talent here can help you fix almost any problem you might have with your ReplayTV. You will almost certainly get assistance posting here faster than you could calling customer service. Some of the ReplayTV employees also spend time on the board.

Besides, I think a forum that had only positive posts about how wonderful ReplayTV is wouldn't be nearly as interesting to read.

Enjoy getting to know the regulars, its a pretty diverse and opinionated bunch!

Best,

Matthew in CO.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes. From my experience in other forums I know exactly what you mean about how people can get on forums.

I will probably not be posting all that much but I read ALOT. I can't wait to use DVA. That looks really exciting. Well, only 3 more hrs of work and then I can go home and hook this bad boy up.

One quick question too, how long does it usually take to activate the ReplayTV? I was planning on doing it online.

Thanks!

Both my activations happened within 2 hours of my signing up online. I did a lot of forced net connects in that time. :)

DVA is truly cool and is the major reason I retired my Replay 2000 and my ShowStopper.
