From this review:

During our tests with a Matrox G450, G550, ATI Radeon VE, Radeon All-in-Wonder, the WinFast Ti 500 showed better image consistency than any other card. While the Matrox cards were already displayed razor sharp text, the WinFast slightly passed it in terms of resolution scaling. At 1600x1200x85Hz, lines and text on the WinFast Ti 500 exhibited no noticeable ghosting or blur while the G550 showed very faint signs of edge blurriness.

Leadtek will be using high-quality filters for all of its future graphics boards starting with the WinFast GeForce3 TDH. We sure hope that other board manufacturers realize that although games are wonderful to play, most users still spend the majority of their computing time in Windows.

This is unnecessary on Leadtek Geforces. I've been a long time Leadtek user and the 2d performance has always been exemplary - in fact just a smidge behind the Matrox g400 and that's at extreme resolution on BNC. That's why I've had four Leateks in the last few years besides Matrox. Leadtek would be my next choice if the r8500 didn't exist...

Hi,

How many times do we need to say it again and again? We are NOT dealing with 2D picture quality in a HTPC. We are dealing with OVERLAY picture quality (color space convertion, scaling) of a display card/chips set. In the area, the Radeon has the best quality, followed by GeForce2/MX/3.

Li On, the Radeon has aweful overlay quality, I've been testing it against my older NVIDIA card and the difference is so bad, that I don't feel I could use the new ATI Radeon card.

Maybe it's just a driver quirk under XP, but so far I've tried 2 radeon cards and both exhibit the same behaviour, while my TNT2 card looks much better.

Hi Blight,

Good to hear you're testing overlay quality. Just use the best for you. Btw, which source do you use? Software DVD player (WinDVD/PowerDVD/ATI player) with pattern discs such as VE/Avia? Or Dscaler picture with a external pattern image?

I just don't want people confuse HTPC video playback quality (DVD, Dscaler etc) based on 2D desktop quality.

Hi,

I am a bit confused now. I have tested several NVIDIA and one Matrox board and I ended up with a Radeon. The overlay quality of the NVIDIA was not bad but the Radeon is IMO sharper, more vivid and has better contrast. The Matrox performed the worsed, especially in two screen mode...

However, before buying my last VidCard I went though the whole forum and to me it seems that I am not alone with my opinion here.

It would be very interesting to know with which hardware, projector etc. you came to your conclusion.

I am using a Duron800, 256MB, Radeon VE which is connected to a BARCO CINE 7 and a Sony LCD (as backup, maintenance etc.) on a 1024x768x75Hz resolution.

So long, tschimi
