Finally! My calibrated G11, 12'x5' GrayHawk, & HTPC is up!

At last I have switched off my Runco/Faroudja for good. After many months of planning I've got it all up and running and I must say it's better than being in a real theater.

I still have some tweaking to do on the HTPC but I watched 'Men Of Honor' last night and WOAH! Sitting about 10' back makes for an awesome experience and the blacks were infinite! The more you squinted, the more detail you could see. The sub comming out or nowhere to snag Cuba was simply breathtaking.

I find myself wanting to watch all of my dark movies again, it's that good. Of course the colors are vivid as well.

I'm now in the midst of building a solid oak hush box to match the room trim then it's back to the audio for a while.

If you haven't gotten your D-ILA calibrated yet go for it! Either send it to William B. Phelps, (wm), AVS, or buy DILARD, but do it somehow! It's really worth the money.

Phil,

Real happy for you! Do you attribute the sensational blacks to the GrayHawk?

Does the DILARD come already calibrated? And what is an appropriate cost for the DILARD?

Thanks.
Pictures???

Phil,

I agree, after lowering the black level on a D-ILA, it is a different projector and movies must be watched again.

Phil,

could you tell me more about the specific components in your system? Also what does HTPC stand for, i am a newbie. I have heard good things about the JVC DILA, but one dealer told me that the blacks were no the best, compaired to the Sony DLP. What processor / scaler are you using?

Pat
Pat,

You are new to this so I'll be gentle, in all reality I'm new to it all too. The term HTPC stands for Home Theater Personal Computer. You asked what "Phil" was/is using for his processor/scaler, that's it. His CPU. You see, with certain hardware and software combinations a regular 'ol personal computer can be used as your best and cheapest dvd/high definition tv processor/scaler/surround sound processor all in one!!! The results, if done correctly, are outstanding at only a fraction of the cost!! If you have some patients with computers and are willing to take the time tweakin' your cpu, you WON'T be dissapointed!! There are numerous posts in the Home Theater Computers area that will definately help you out and get you started in the right direction! If you would like more help feel free to email me with any questions you might have. The best thing about the AV Science Forum area is the help you'll get if you post a question. It usually gets answered within that day with several answers or solutions to your problem or delima. I hope that clears the water for you a bit. Who knows?? You may be on your way to the next best addiction!!!

Good luck,

Mike
