Finally replacing the 61" DLP in the media room. Both our DLP color wheels are whining so I think I want to stay away from DLP for a projector (do DLP projectors have the same problem with color wheels? Will I not like LCD coming from DLP?) and go LCD.


I may up my FP budget to around $2K so I'm looking at:

Epson 8350

Epson 8700

Panny AE4000

Sanyo Z4000

Mitsu 6800

BenQ W6000


The room is true media room with no windows and light controlled, 12x16 with a vaulted ceiling to 10'


Current seating is at 10' but can be moved to 11' or 12' but trying to keep the room at THX recommended for 7.1 audio


FP can be mounted at 10' to 11' from screen. THere is a fan mounted in front of where the FP will be that drops from to 8' high, I will have to remove the fan or use a bar to drop the FP. Video and power already wired to ceiling where the FP will be mounted.


Coming from DLP I'm looking for sharpness and brightness for 50% blu ray, 30% sports, 20% XBOX 360


PLease also recommend the best 100" screen/mount/35' HDMI to pair and stay around $3K total! THANK YOU!

Generally DLP and LCD have different looks. It is hard to say if you'll like the look of the LCD's, but it is definitely something you should be aware of.

I would really appreciate any other feedback anyone can give. I'm leaning toward the 8350 package with the vapex screen, is this a good choice for beginner screen? Is the 1.1 gain good to pair with the 8350?
