Verizon's FiOS TV subscribers Feb. 17 became the first users to gain access to HBOGo.com, the nascent site that allows the cable channel's subscribers to stream on-demand 600 hours of repurposed movies or television programs at no additional charge.

Customers must subscribe to both FiOS TV and FiOS Internet the former available in about 5.5 million households to obtain access to the site.

HBO last month began testing the HBO Go as part of parent Time Warner's multi-platform (TV Everywhere) digital strategy.

Media companies, in an effort to retain subscribers to their premium content channels, movies, thwart piracy and bypass third-party aggregators such as Hulu and TV.com, are implementing several proprietary platforms, including Disney's KeyChest and the Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem (DECE), co-founded by Fox, Paramount, Sony, Universal and Warner.
