CapDVHS happily captures the iLink (firewire) stream from the HDR-HC1 camcorder. The captured resolution is 1440 x 1080i, consistent with this forums' stated limit of Sony's HDV standard.

There was a mention in the big HC1 thread about disabling image stabilization to achieve 1920 x 1080 video captures-- is this possible?

In other words, is there any way to rig the HC1 to allow 1920 x 1080i captures instead of 1440 x 1080i?

Thanks,

David

No, it's not possible. The 1440x1080 is not HC1 limitation as the CMOS inside has enough active pixels to capture full frame of 1920x1080 at least for stills. It is HDV standard recording limitation, all HDV videos have to be 1440 or 1280. It is interesting to note that I think pro version of HD I think has lower recording resolution than HDV and isn't HC1 the first HD camcorder, outside of some essoteric , very expensive pro cams, capable of actually capturing full 1920x1080 video? JVC uses 720p mode, FX1 has 3 sensors albeit at 960 horizontal pixels each and even Varicam sensors don't have anywhere near full 1920 pixels accross.
