first coat of paint?

194 Views 1 Reply 2 Participants Last post by  Gary McCoy
I've got my frame about done, and I'll be picking up some fabric this weekend, and I was wondering what people do for the first coat of paint on their screens. Do people typically apply multiple coats? If so, is there a type of paint that will "prime" the surface for the final paint?

Thanks!

I started with a bedsheet because I wanted a screen taller than the 54" blackout fabric most people are using. Therefore after washing and drying and ironing the sheet I used latex primer/sealer as a first coat. Use half the normal soap, no fabric softener, no starch, no bleach, no enzymes, and rinse twice in clear water. Con your wife into the laundry part if you dare!

I believe if you are using the blackout fabric the smooth vinyl side will accept the finish paint with no primer needed.
