Greetings folks,

I've finally bit the bullet and decided to upgrade my trusty Toshiba 32" CRT to something this decade. There was a lot of learning to do and a lot of products to view.

Now, I'm not a videophile by any means. I'm just a guy who has grown up watching SD TV and mostly uses the television for videogames and watching DVDs. S-video has been my connection format of choice for many years, I have yet to go component. That said, I highly disliked almost all DLP, LCD, and Plasma offerings I've seen. For one, the cost. I think you will change your mind on the WS DVD issue when you watch one on the Sony! I think you made a great choice! Make sure to watch regular 4:3 TV in one of the modes that fills the screen. Thids will help eliminate the chance of Burn-in.

Thanks, AggiePilk. I'll receive it next week, I'm very excited. I think I just needed someone to tell me that I didn't waste my money and you did just that. I was reading the manual for this TV and saw all the different options on how to manipulate a standard display to be WS. Good advice.

Interesting. I too was a little down on Sony and was all set to replace a 34 inch direct view Sony with a Panasonic X54 series RPTV. Then the Sony 51WS520 caught my eye. It was right next to a Hitachi F series, and a Panasonic 47X54. The sony was picture was surprisingly more detailed and pleasing to look at then the other sets. The smaller 46 inch Sony looked equally impressive. I suspect the new 520 RPTV's may be slipping under the radar of many on this board.
