Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and have been reading but I'm feeling a little lost and hoping for some advice. We are looking for our first hdtv and want a unit that will be used with directv, mainly for tv and sports with some ps3 games and maybe blu-ray movies.

Setup: Unit will be slightly above eye level(about 18in) and viewed pretty straight on from 8-10 feet away.Space is a concern; probably cant handle anything over 40in. Not much sunlight hits the area so glare shouldn't be an issue.

The rub is that after Christmas our funds are a little tight so we want the most bang for our buck. Ideally under $700. On the other hand I don't want to get a set that will be inadequate.

So with the info I've given any recommendations? Thanks

First of all, welcome to AVS Forum.

Here are a couple of televisions that would likely suit you:

Toshiba 40RV525U (40" 1080p) http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-REGZA-...0442282&sr=1-1

Toshiba 37CV510U (37" 720p) http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-REGZA-...0442933&sr=1-1

LG 37LG30 (37" 720p) http://www.amazon.com/LG-37LG30-37-I...0442449&sr=1-9

Sharp LC37D64U (37" 1080p) http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-Aquos-LC...0442449&sr=1-3

Sharp LC37D44U (37" 720p) http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-Aquos-LC...0442449&sr=1-1

Since your viewing distances are 8-10f away, it's better to get the biggest screen you can get since you can easily get a 46" or bigger with that viewing distances.

Your viewing distance is too far for something under 40". I would get a 42-50" Panasonic plasma if you have room for it. The cheapest Panasonic plasma (TH-42PX80U) can be found for around $650 on sale or $700 everyday, and that will look far better than any $700 LCDs will.
