Hey guys,

I'm planning my first HTPC build. A primary concern for me is size. The last piece of the build that I am looking for is an itx case with a balance of size and use.

I really like the ML05/06 cases. The specs for these cases show that there is a bracket that can hold 4 2.5" drives. I want to be able to use a 3.5" drive along with an optical drive though.

Planned components:

GA-H87N-WIFI Motherboard

i3-4330 processor (chosen for 4600 GPU)

8 GB Corsair Vengeance

3 TB Seagate Barracuda 3.5" Drive

Slim optical drive

Has anyone tried to use 3.5" drives in this? If it is a bad idea to try to cram in the 3.5" drive in the ML05/06 case, my next option would likely be to use a ML04 case. The ML04 is larger however and designed for mini-ATX. If I go the ML04 route, would it be smarter to choose a different larger motherboard?

Also, I am not planning to use a SSD. Is it a bad choice on my part not to?

Finally, i've read about some difficulties with using an optical drive in the ML05/06 cases. I read that the drive becomes set back too far and you need to push the disc in all the way through the case. Does anyone have this case with an optical drive in it to shed some light?

Well, after endless hours of searching through every mini-itx box that I could find, I abandoned the ML04/05/06. I went with something much larger than first planned (Antec ISK600).

The GA-H87N motherboard has been swapped for a Asus H87I-Plus and I sprung for the SSD after reading much more.

I abandoned the 8gb Vengenance for a single 1600 mhz Kingston HyperX blu (not preferred, but I got the last stick that amazon had for $63.99 shipped).

I'm by no means a computer enthusiast. I haven't stayed on top of any technology ever since a build back in 2005 or 2006. Can anyone comment on the specs below please? I ordered these today.

Asus H87I-Plus motherboard

3.5 ghz Intel i3-4330

Crucial M500 120GB SSD

Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 3TB

(1) stick Kingston HyperX blu 8gb 1600 mhz

Antec ISK600 case

*Couple old power supplies are coming in the mail

I still need an air remote/keyboard and a slim blu ray. Can anyone recommend air remotes that they have liked. I don't have the cash to drop on a Harmony type right now.

Thanks

I just built my HTPC and really like the ML05.  I have 2 hard drives, an SSD and an optical drive in it with no issues whatsoever.  Lots of tie down spots for cable management, and with a fanless power supply the box is very, very quiet.
