First (real) System Review Needed

Ok, my first sound system I put together way back in the day consisted of 2 Cerwin Vega AT-15's, Adcom GTP-400 reveiver with a GFA-545 II for power. As you can see it was more music based then HT. I was a young metal head at the time. I still have all he components. Had to replace the surrounds on the 15" cones a few years ago after they scattered them selves across the deck a few summers back. Yes, I moved the system outside for concert level sound while doing yard work. Neighbors weren't impressed, or so I heard from my wife. Nothing like listening to music while mowing the lawn! :D:D:pGot to love Cerwin Vega! Anywho,, the reason Im here;

I have been lurking and reading a bit over the last few years. Recently all the reading has put a bug in my bonnet to get a real HT to replace the 100 dollar Sony soundbar with wireless remote woofer I have been running for a the last few years. Its especially sad since I acquired an 85" Panasonic plasma monitor a few years ago. Sure, its only 1080P, but its damn cool sitting 12ish feet away watching damn near full size action figures with no motion blur. Its pretty cool. I digress...

Listening Space: 25'x33'x15'. Opens to the kitchen and a long hallway. Dang, 12K cubic??

Try not to laugh now, after doing the volume calc, here is the current direction based on what I have read here for a 3.1?akers;

Reciever: Denon AVR-X1500H (Not purchased yet, in basket)

Speakers: Based on Zieglers recommendation I have ordered the DCM TP260-CH Floor Tower Speakers with the timbre matching TP160C center. Easy Zorba, I can hear you winding up from Washington! Now, these are not set in stone. I was already looking at the LSiM707's that are on sale at Adoram right now once again based on reading hear. So, here's my question, would I be better served by (my short list if you can call it that) the LSiM707's or the JBL 590's? or the Emotiva T2+, or??? You can see a big speaker tendency. I blame Cerwin Vega. My ears are not the best anymore so Im probably way over what I can "hear" which is why I took the risk of the DCM's. To the dismay of my wife, I do like it loud.

Subwoofer(s): Ok, now this is what makes my juices flow. BASS! I remember the day I picked up the Cerwin's from the store in my CJ-7. The salesperson thought I was nuts. I made them fit. No room to spare. Fast forward a few years when the car audio craze overtook me. I had 4-15" earthquake woofers in a custom enclosure in the back of the same CJ-7 with an Earthquake 2000 watt 4 channel amplifier driving the system. What back seat? Again, I digress. Back to the topic at hand, I was thinking a single SVS PB-4000 (where did the PB-13 go?) for bass. Now looking at my volume I might need 2. 3K in bass wasn't the plan. Thought son the 1 working?

Eventually I will get to a 5.1 setup. Currently shooting for a solid 3.1 setup if Im using the numbers right.

Im open for any and all suggestions. Budget for the speakers is 1K or less. AVR is 500 and down. Fire away!

Update: Looking at DIY as suggested, but roaming through data-bass.com came across the Rythmik FV25HP. Still pushing the 3k limit, but walks all over the SVS. I'm not sure there is more bang for the buck from what Ive seen so far other then the ww-speakerbox 21. I couldn't find a place to buy, or see the cost of the Danley Sound Labs DTS-10 LMS-R but it looks like a monster as well.

So if you want killer subs DIY is the way to go if you have the means to put them together and it will be cheaper. Probably can get 4 very nice 18" subs for the price of an SVS PB4000. Visit the DIY forum and you will see some bass enthusiast putting together some very nice stuff! Parts express 18" Ultimax is a favorite paired with Berhinger NX3000D or 6000D amps.

Since you like it LOUD -- crossover the DCM at 80 hz

link removed...

4-18's I like the way you think! Im thinking I need a bass tower built into the corner to get the cabinet volume. Who am I kidding, the wife will kill me. Now, I do have a hell of a crawlspace....

Any feed back on the towers? Or run the DCM's first and go from there? The Polk's are on their way out so that's the only real concern if they might be a better option over the 590's or the T2's.

From the DIY section: 8x 18" LMS 5400 Ultras Sealed to 27 Cube 15hz Ported Build (cant post links apparently...)

This is insane. Now planning on building an out building for my HT room ;)

I would run the DCM's ... but you can also buy another set of towers, and use the DCM's as surrounds

Bingo! I was sitting here going do I buy 2 more DCM's for full surround? You have or have had the DCM's? TP series? I think you mentioned the Emotiva T2's as well in other posts. The 590's and 707'sget a bit of love here for budget speakers as well. That's how I built my list. I apologize for butchering your name in my initial post. I thought I could go right back after posting and fix.

I am fine and not offended

I have speakers from both the TP and the higher level TFE series --- The TFE series is a more rounded sounding set of speakers and throw a better/bigger soundstage. --- the DCM's are no slouch or wimp, and with the TFE series, I would use the TFE center channel, as it will have a raised tweeter and is bigger.

Nothing wrong with going with Polk, or Emotiva, or JBL as that is what an audio itch does for you, it depends on what is enough for you --- but with powerful sub systems, the subs will pick up most of the lower end

Ok, the DCM's have arrived! I day early and I'm sitting here with no AVR. Might have to break my Adcom stuff out to get it to make noise while I wait. I have decided on the Denon x3500H based on recommendations from another thread for a AVR with preamp outputs, just in case I need to add an amp later.

I was a bit concerned with the forklift poke in the box. Luckily no damage found.

I had to do a side by side with my Cerwin's. The DCM's sure are cute!

Dropped, sorta into place. I need to know who was responsible for ordering the AVR and why it not here!

Notice the tiny 100 dollar Sony soundbar? I cant wait to here these critters.

Ok, now for the sub. In DIYy, the GJALLARHORN look interesting for my volume. Large and in charge for sure. Next being the Danley Sound Labs › DTS-10 LMS-R but i cant find any purchase or pricing info. WW Speaker Cabinets › X21, and the non DIY Rythmik Audio › FV25HP. The last one being buy it and plug it in.

Thanks for all the help so far!

It is always nice/good when speakers show up early -- the DCM's do look good -- you may have to break out the Adcom ... And I hope that center on the floor was for a picture purpose -- when you put it on the shelf, find a way to aim it up some -- enjoy

You have some nice options on the sub ... if you do not build, then rhe Rythmik seems like a real good option
